More Ladywasteland in the future
Internet Stuff

ImageA few people have been asking me about if I know if there will be more Lady Wasteland, or any other news.

Well I finally have your answer below in the form of a Press Release from the people at Lady Wasteland. Fresh from my inbox to you.

PRESS RELEASE
Lady Wasteland - Series hits over 570,000 hits as of Feb 2008.
Portland, OR – Feb 27th, 2008 – After release of its final episode in the Lady Wasteland pilot series, Wasteland Films is continuing to get major coverage and front-page placement on many popular video sharing sites such as Veoh.com, Revver.com, Dailymotion.com, Metacafe.com and Crackle.com where it received three editor’s choice awards.
Promotions for Lady Wasteland are continuing and we’re finishing work on the final pages of the website. Soon we’ll be offering higher quality downloads of each video, wallpaper, ringtones and other extras.
Another addition to the wasteland is that we’ll be taking all seven episodes and running them together as a single story line... which would be about 22 minutes long. Maybe even edit in some new scenes…
Our future plans are to redevelop the series either into a longer web-based format with episodes ranging between 7-10 minutes long and/or expanding the series into a cable television show. All of this, of course, is dependent on the continuing support we've been receiving worldwide for the series
New scripts are being developed and if all goes well... we're going to start the series anew, possibly from scratch this summer. Longer episodes, more defined storylines... darker and grittier.
Welcome to the wasteland – spread the decay – www.ladywasteland.com

While I'm not personally big on things like ring tones (I despise having a cell phone in the first place), hi quality downloads of the videos would be a bonus for sure. And of course longer versions of the webisodes would be very cool.

Movie review: Sunshine
Movies

Image The second review we're bringing you today is the sci-fi thriller with an Apocalyptic plot device, 'Sunshine'. Directed by Danny Boyle, the same man that helped bring you films like '28 Days Later' and 'Trainspotting'.

With Earth's life source -- the sun -- dying out 50 years in the future, it seems the planet's days may be numbered in this sci-fi thriller starring Cillian Murphy and Michelle Yeoh. Humanity's only hope lies with a crew of astronauts transporting a device that will revitalize the sun. But an accident, a deadly error and a distress signal from a vessel that vanished years ago leave the cosmonauts fighting for survival ... and for their sanity.

Movie Review: On the Beach (1959)

Image I'm playing catch up on the reviews today, so expect a couple. The first is the 1959 film adaptation of Nevil Shute's 'On the Beach', directed by Stanley Kramer.

In this 1959 doomsday classic, a U.S. submarine led by Capt. Dwight Towers (Gregory Peck) surfaces near Melbourne, where the passengers learn that nuclear war has wiped out most of humanity. And it won't be long before radiation kills the Australians as well. The tense drama features standout performances by Peck, Ava Gardner as Towers's lover, Fred Astaire as a guilt-wracked scientist and Anthony Perkins and Donna Anderson as newlyweds.

If nothing else, it's a fatalistic story that stars several of the renown late-period B&W film stars, and that should be worth watching in itself.

Earth Rise announced
Games

Thursday, 24 January 2008
ImageMasthead Studios, a Bulgarian game company, has announced it's working on a Sci-Fi Post-Apoc game titled 'Earth Rise'. They have a site live for the game now, and it has your typical forums/backstory sort of stuff as well as a few teaser photos, which mostly look like they are concentrating on the Sci-Fi aspect of the post-apoc world.

"Earthrise is a post apocalyptic science fiction MMORPG set in the distant future.

In the aftermath of the Third World War, mankind has managed to survive and build a new society: the prosperous city of Sal Vitas. Cloning, nanotechnology and quantum engineering are part of a new reality. Thanks to these technological advances, the human species has become immortal; each individual’s consciousness is stored in a data vault, ready to be uploaded into a cloned body as necessary. New energy sources have been discovered. There is a unified government that takes good care of those citizens who abide by its strict laws. Paradise, it appears, might really have come to Earth, and the people have embraced it.
"

The full game website can be found at http://www.play-earthrise.com/.

Mushroom cloud makes Weather Report footage

ImageReuters reports on Art imitating atom blast:
"A group of artists are under fire for sneaking hoax footage of a nuclear explosion into a tv station's weather pictures.

Stunned television viewers in the Czech Republic watched in horror as the nuclear mushroom cloud appeared on their screens, apparently in a live panoramic shot of a mountain beauty spot. "

The group's intent was to demonstrate that even live-media can be manipulated, how very dystopian-aware of them :]

Start of the Year Roundup
News by the Megaton

Image Well, it's now 2008.. and it looks like we all survived.. (or did we.. hrm?).. anyhow, a good bit of fun stuff found it's way up already:

From the Zombie Reporting Center, we learned two things:
1- You can find a bunch of George Romero's original scripts online.. including the one for Resident Evil..correct. G.R. didn't DO resident evil, but was going to.
2- The Post Apocalyptic Workout... yes.. you heard that right.. A striking WGA'er is documenting their experience starting a Zombie Survival Workout/Training regime.

On that note, caught via LJ is 100 Items to Disappear First, a list of the that during a crisis/emergency are the first to go, and includes a few tips from a Sarajevo War Survivor.

The semi-28-days-later-esque england-plague flick Doomsday is officially going to get major release in the states in mid-March.. woot.

Rotten Tomatoes tells us that the Sarah Conner Chronicles might get an early web-release, as in you can go get watch the pilot on Yahoo!, but it's a time limited thing.. the preview expires at Midnight EST on Saturday the 5th (tonight).. If you miss this, you'll have to wait until the official Fox premier on Jan 13th and 14th.

Quiet Earth found some info about a possible 'I am Legend' Sequel..., and needless to say, I share the 'WTF' opinion.

And last but not least, Congratulations to 'Orchomenos' for winning the End of the Year For Us 2007 give away. :]

Holiday Season Roundup
News by the Megaton
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 25 December 2007
Well it looks like even the end of the world, the corporate dystopian state, and even zombies pretty much tone it done over the holiday season. The biggest news going on is that 'I am Legend' was a box office smash.. maybe because of it a new generation will become aware the apocalyptic possibilities.

Lady Wasteland was posted last Friday, entitled 'The Sludge'.. it's a great way to get your bite-sized post-apoc on.

The only other exciting thing that seems to be going on is that the ZRC found an inexpensive way to show your support for zombies.. pretty nifty actually.

Also some of you may remember me mentioning something about a contest a bit back.. yes.. come back tomorrow when the contest will officially start. We're giving aware some good reading for free :]
