NMA posts there's a new Fallout-Like game in town by game hobbiest 'shihonage'. No fancy studio or anything, just a basement coder.
ETA is sometime 2008
"Back in 1999 I started working on a project ("Shelter"), which has been abandoned several times, restarted, abandoned, restarted, etc. Shamefully, I even announced it on this forum sometime in 2001 never to be seen again. "
"Does anyone remember the movie "Screamers" ? I loved that movie's setting, which seems very similar to Fallout to me. "That GODDAMN radiation !" "So we have to smoke this shit into our lungs just to neutralize the shit in our lungs ?"
He's made a YouTube video demo, and is currently art from the Fallout series as placeholders:
In this game-hobbiest's opinion, the demo is not to bad of a 'tech demo', but I'm not seeing anything original or that makes me want to play. The guy did write a whole new game engine and art loaders, which is nice, but so far I'm failing to see why not just make it a Fallout mod.
I'll keep tabs on it for everyone though and share how it's shaping up.
Looks like one of the popular Post-Nuclear-War myths is about to get tested.
The Mythbusters are going to nuke a collection of bugs, namely cockroaches, and give them an unhealthy dose of radiation and see what happens.
Frankly.. I'm hoping Kari gets bit by one and becomes RoachWoman.. no word on what her super powers would be..
(wait.. no I don't.. what's wrong with me?)
Anyhow.. they are going to bombard the bugs with up to 100k rads (or 1000 grays for people using the current radiation measurements), and take them back to see how long they survive.
Per Wikipedia:
"A whole-body dose of 10-20 grays of high-energy radiation, delivered at one time, can be fatal to humans".
The Episode is expected to air in 4 to 6 months... lets just hope they don't turn into killer cockroaches ala Damnation Alley..
Hundreds of walking dead terrorize tourists on I-Drive -- but it's all in frightful, freaky fun.
...
Orlando zombie walkers were asked to sign in so that an official count could be sent to the Guinness World Records in England. The record was established by a zombie walk in Pittsburgh in October 2006 that had 894 participants. A spot check showed the I-Drive effort well below that total at about 300. It's a friendly rivalry.
"
So unfortunately it looks like Pittsburgh will keep the Zombie Walk record.
ZombieBait has contributed a review of Ray Bradbury's short post-apocalyptic story "There will come soft rains" about a house that alone survives the nuclear war.
If you've never read it, for shame on you! You should at least check out the radio-audio-drama... very much sets the mood of the original story.
The Post-Apoc sci-fi/fantasy game 'Hellgate London' has gone Gold, but more importantly for alot of us we are up-in-the-air about this title, a single-player demo of the is scheduled for release on Friday.
The singleplayer demo represents just a small taste of the Hellgate: London experience. Gamers can choose from two of the game's six character classes: the Blademaster, a master of swordplay and action-packed melee combat, or the Marksman, a cool, calculating, long-range specialist.
In the demo, these heroes are able to battle through a small handful of storyline and side quests as they adventure through the streets and tunnels around London's Holborn Station.
