Review:
In the very near future, scientists have developed a chemo-virus that is meant to keep soldiers fighting, even after they’re dead. It works…sort of. The virus requires the presence of X chromosomes to work at full efficiency, and by the time the story begins, it’s been watered down so much that while it keeps women up and running after death (even enhancing their physical abilities), it turns men into mindless walking corpses. Either way, there’s still flesh-eating required.
Very early in the movie, the virus is transported out of the lab and into a nearby underground (meaning illegal) strip club, where many of the dancing girls become infected. Let the bloodbath commence.
I watched this movie as a favor to my wife, not holding any hope that it would be any good at all. I’m glad I sat through it. It’s like a zombie movies meets a grindhouse flick meets lots and lots of nakedness. The make-up and special effects were stunning, so much so that I’ll wonder if the makers of “serious” zombie films in the future don’t call on whatever company did the effects for Zombie Strippers. The story is just as weak as it sounds, and the acting is definitely not up to the standards of Russell Crowe or William Hurt, but that’s the point. It was written as a sort of grindhouse film, and what might look like a writer with sever head trauma in the preview turns to cheesy gold in the film.
What I liked:
- Dazzling zombie gore effects
- Gratuitous amounts of blood-covered female nudity
What I didn't like:
- There could have been more blood-covered female nudity
Rating:
- Genre Feel: The film parodies itself and is, at times, very close to slapstick. This doesn’t detract much from the feel, since it was written as a comedy.
- Acting: When your headliners are Robert Englund and Jenna Jameson, you don’t expect much in the way of acting. That said, I think the actors did a good job with the parts they were given.
- Effects: Unbelievable. Why the hell can’t serious zombie movies have effects like Zombie Strippers?!?
- Production Quality: Impressive.
Final Scoring: 5.0 Zombie Heads of a possible 5 Zombie Heads Personal Recommendation: Like I did, you’re thinking “no way am I gonna see this.” Seriously…see this. Really. Availablity: Expect DVD around Q4 2008 In Theaters Powered by Flesh eating zombies.. oh and Simple Review |
