Offical Blurb:
Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (ODED FEHR) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke ) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead...and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.
Yeap. the Blurb don't lie. The movie poster does alittle though, but I digress.
Skipping the pretty good opening scene because I don't want to give it away, our journey starts with Alice minding her own business somewhere in the Mid-West USA. She's casually looking for survivors with mixed results. A cut-scene explains why the world as it is, the T-Virus kills rivers and lakes now, but as we find out later.. not crows.
At the next gas stop, she finds a book that might indicate a pocket of survivors isolated from infection in a remote region, and tucks it away for future use (it's important later trust me..).
Meanwhile.. our intrepid road caravan (I'm half expecting Wez to pull up next to the tanker.. but that's just me..), lead by Claire, is running low on supplies, rations, and petrol. Taking a nighttime rest at an abandoned motel on the road, one of our group make the stupidest mistake you can in a zombie movie, and if you don't know what that is, you need to watch more zombie movies. Anyhow... that night Alice, nearby for either coincidence or because she's stalking the caravan wrecks her motorcycle and hikes over the the caravan, saving them from a Alfred Hitchcock movie.. er.. I mean the zombie crows, and is greeted by old acquaintances from the previous movie: Carlos Olivera and L.J... you might remember them as the STARS team member and taxi driver from RE:Apoc.
After brief discussion of the need to resupply, they opt to hit up Vegas, because it's a large town there is great risk, but also great reward... or something like that.. SUCKERS!
Wondering where the villain is? That would be Dr. Sam Isaacs (played by Iain Glen). Most of the time up to this point he's being an evil scientist, arguing with upper level muckity-mucks. And of course it wouldn't be a RE movie if Alice didn't take the fight to the local Umbrella Corp facility, now would it?
I won't reveal who dies and who doesn't.. and who was a complete waste of being in the credits..
The Good:
- The opening scene of this movie is probably one of it's better parts. In short it's a question of 'what the hell is happening what?!'. I think viewers will like it.
- 95 minutes of Milla without a bra in a desert wasteland.. times are good.
- The action scenes are well done, as one would expect from other Paul Anderson movies.
The Bad:
- "Control, control. You must learn control.".. Kudos if it was purposeful.. else.. eek-gad!
- While watching this movie I felt a little tug in my brain of parallels to the overall movie flow of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Alice is doing her thing.. hangs out with survivors.. saves the little kids.. while she takes care of kicking the arse of the main villain.
- Stereotypical Megalomaniac doctor with a god complex.
- The 3rd person narratives and cut scenes really seemed awkward.. although they explain alot in a short time and don't linger to the point of annoyance, I just think they could have been handled better. In general it's the same kinda thing you'd expect in the other two movies in this series, so it's not out of place for the movie.
- If you think this movie has a lot to do with Las Vegas.. remove that thought from your brain.
